Tales and Fables
INSPIRED BY MY OWN WORKS AND OTHERS...
Lily crawled into the space as if it were a cocoon and lit up a nearby lamp, it's warm glow making her feel safe in her little world of books and stories. She picked a book from the shelves and eagerly flipped through its pages. As the words seemed to glow and shimmer, a bright light arose from the book and Lily was blinded for a few moments.
She found herself on the floor, surrounded with colorful flowers and tall trees. The solf grass felt warm beneath her bare feet. In front of her, she saw the entrance of a garden that she had never seen before. As Lily approaches the gate, her heart begins to pound and she can't help but feel a sense of trepidation. It was made of metal, intricately carved with twisting vines and blooming flowers entwined in the design with each flower holding a shimmering gemstone giving off a warm glow in the sunlight. She reached her hand and touched the cold metal bars. Her fingers felt a pulsating energy though her body. With fear and excitment, she hesitated for a brief moment but the garden beyond the gate seemed to pull her in. She pushed open the gate, the hinges creaking as she stepped trough the gate. She noticed wondrous carvings etched into the gate, depicting scenes of magical creatures and fantastical landscapes. The fragrance of roses and lavender filled the air and Lily heard the sound of a gentle fountain in the distance. She followed the sound into the heart of the garden and arrived to a small courtyard with a towering fountain at it's center, it's water cascading down from the top of the fountain in a never ending stream. Around the courtyard, tall trees and lush greenery as far as she could see. The dense group of plants and shrubs around the courtyard seemed to grow in a maze-like formation. Without hesitation, she entered the maze and navigated through the winding paths, feeling the coolness of the leaves brushing against her soft skin. It was difficult to see where she was going, the hedges around her were tall and casted long shadows. Lily began to feel lost and disoriented with the twisting paths sometimes splitting into multiple paths and the occasional dead-ends, but she kept going, determined to make it to the other side. As she turned corner after corner and turned back after walking into another dead-end, Lily felt as she was going in circles and began to feel frustrated. Lily was about to give up when she stumbled upon a small clearing. She couldn't believe what her eyes were seeing. A massive tree stood in the center of the clearing, with dozens of branches stretching out in all directions above the hedges. And on each branch rested books of all shapes and sizes. She had never seen so many books in one place in her life. Lily ran her fingers along the spines of the books on the lower branches, feeling excited. As she continued around the tree, she got nearer and nearer the trunk, and there she stumbled upon a small cozy reading nook nestled into the trunk of the tree. There it sat a turtle, upon a soft plush cushion, reading a book. The turtle looked up at Lily, smiled, and asked "are you looking for anything in particular?". Lily was shocked by the talking turtle and hesitated for a moment before replying, "I don't know, I just found this amazing garden." The turtle nodded at Lily and gestured to the branches of the tree, "Feel free to browse our selection. This tree has books on every topic you can imagine." before turning its attention back to his own book. Lily walked over to the tree's branches and marvelled at the titles and the variety. She eventually picked a book about fairies and took it back to the reading nook. She sat next to the turtle and settled in to read. Lily spent hours lost in the pages of the newfound book, occasionally choosing another and going back to the reading nook to read. She learned about the legends and lore of many magnificent creatures that inhabited the magical garden. None of them spoke to each other, both completely absorved into their books. After awhile, Lily realized that she had been reading in the tree for much longer that she had thought, closed her book and thanked the turtle for his hospitality. She jumped of the reading nook and began to make her way back through the maze, looking back one last time at the tree filled with books and at the smiling turtle. Comments are closed.
